Coloured M4 x 12mm Countersunk Machine Screws
These M4 x 12mm coloured countersunk machine screws are built for assemblies where the screw head must sit completely flush with the surrounding surface. The conical countersunk head drops into a chamfered hole and finishes level with or below the material face - leaving a smooth, flat surface with no protrusion. Where a pan head would stand proud, a countersunk head disappears.
Designed to DIN 965 with a fully threaded M4 metric shank (0.7mm pitch), these machine screws fasten securely into pre-tapped holes, threaded inserts, or paired with a matching M4 nut. The 12mm length provides sufficient engagement for single-skin assemblies and standard-depth threaded holes. The Pozidriv PZ2 recess delivers a positive drive with minimal cam-out, keeping the head surface and powder coat intact during installation.
Manufactured from carbon steel with a bright zinc plated (BZP) base and finished in a durable RAL powder coat, each screw head is colour-matched to the surface it sits against. On signage panels, equipment housings, furniture hardware, and architectural metalwork - where a flush finish is specified precisely because the fixing should not be visible - a bare zinc head sitting in a countersunk recess still catches the eye. A colour-matched countersunk head completes the illusion: the fixing disappears entirely into the surface.
41 RAL Colour-Matched Finishes
Every M4 x 12mm countersunk machine screw is electrostatically powder-coated and oven-cured to a RAL Classic colour standard. The result is a hard, uniform finish bonded directly to the screw head - resistant to scratching, chipping, UV fading, and corrosion. Unlike wet paint, powder coat will not peel, blister, or thin at edges over time.
With 41 stocked RAL colours spanning whites, greys, blacks, blues, greens, reds, yellows, browns, and purples, these coloured countersunk machine screws cover the most commonly specified colours across signage, shopfitting, enclosures, and architectural metalwork. Whether you are matching RAL 9005 Jet Black flush-mounted panels, RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey equipment housings, RAL 9010 Pure White display frames, or RAL 7035 Light Grey control panels, the right colour is available for immediate dispatch.
Need a RAL colour outside the stocked range? We hold over 400 RAL Classic powders and can coat to any colour on request. Contact us with your RAL reference for availability and lead times.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between countersunk and pan head machine screws?
A countersunk machine screw has a conical head that sits flush with or below the surface when installed into a chamfered hole - giving a completely smooth, flat finish with no protrusion. A pan head machine screw has a domed head that sits proud of the surface, providing a wider clamping area without requiring a countersink. Choose countersunk where a flush surface is essential - overlapping panels, moving parts, or anywhere a protruding head would interfere. Choose pan head where surface-mounted clamping is needed and a visible head is acceptable.
Do I need to countersink the hole before fitting?
Yes. For the head to sit flush, the receiving hole needs a countersunk chamfer that matches the conical underside of the screw head. In metal, this is typically done with a countersink bit after drilling the clearance hole. Without the chamfer, the head will sit proud of the surface and the screw will not clamp correctly.
What thread size and pitch do these machine screws have?
These are M4 (4mm diameter) metric coarse thread machine screws with a standard 0.7mm pitch. They are fully threaded across the entire 12mm shank length and manufactured to DIN 965.
What driver bit do I need for these screws?
These countersunk machine screws have a Pozidriv PZ2 recess. Use a standard PZ2 driver bit - widely available and compatible with all cordless drivers and hand screwdrivers.
What is the difference between a machine screw and a self-tapping screw?
Machine screws have a parallel metric thread designed to fasten into pre-tapped holes, threaded inserts, or matching nuts. They do not cut their own thread. Self-tapping screws have a hardened point that cuts directly into the substrate without pre-threading. Machine screws produce a stronger, more precise joint and can be removed and re-inserted repeatedly without weakening the thread.
Powder Coated Machine Screws
RALfixings specialise in colour-matched visible fixings for the signage, shopfitting, and fabrication sectors. Every machine screw is powder-coated in-house using an electrostatic spray process, then oven-cured at 200°C to produce a hard, even finish that bonds directly to the screw head.
On a countersunk screw, the powder coat covers the conical head face that remains visible once the screw is seated in its chamfered hole. The electrostatically charged powder particles build a consistent film thickness across the angled surface and into the Pozidriv recess - coverage that liquid paint cannot replicate. The cured finish is harder, more flexible, and far more resistant to impact, abrasion, and chemical exposure - lasting years beyond a conventional painted finish even in demanding interior environments.
Benefits of powder coated machine screws:
- Scratch resistant - hard cured finish withstands handling and installation
- Rust resistant - BZP base plus powder coat provides dual corrosion protection
- UV resistant - colour stays true with no fading or chalking
- Weather resistant - will not peel, blister, or crack in exterior conditions
- Colourfast - RAL colour-matched finish maintains consistency over time

Recommended applications
A colour-matched countersunk machine screw for assemblies where the screw head must sit completely flush with the surrounding surface. The conical head drops into a chamfered hole and finishes level with the material face - leaving a smooth, flat surface with no protrusion. Where a pan head would stand proud, a countersunk head disappears.
Requires a pre-tapped hole, threaded insert or matching M4 nut, plus a countersunk chamfer in the clearance hole for the head to seat into. The fully threaded 12mm shank gives sufficient engagement for single-skin assemblies and standard-depth threaded holes. Drive with a PZ2 Pozidriv bit at controlled torque.
Where a flush finish is not required and surface-mounted clamping is acceptable, our pan head machine screws provide a wider bearing surface without the need for countersinking. Where the fixing must cut its own thread into an untapped substrate, use a self-tapping screw instead.
