Description
These 25mm x 4.2mm painted flange head self tapping screws in RAL 9005 Jet Black are a direct solution for contractors and fabricators who need a strong, colour-matched fixing for dark-toned panels, signage and architectural metalwork. The powder-coated head blends with black and charcoal surfaces, removing the visual noise that bare zinc fixings create on finished installations.
The 25mm length provides meaningful additional thread engagement over shorter 19mm variants. This extra reach makes the screw better suited to panel-to-timber connections, thicker substrates and installations where higher pull-out resistance is needed to resist wind uplift on exposed hoarding panels.
Built around a flange head profile, these screws distribute clamping load across a wider contact patch than standard pan head or countersunk designs. On thin ACM sheets, Foamex boards and printed composite panels, this broader footprint prevents the localised stress concentrations that cause dimpling and pull-through failure.
The 60° self-tapping thread and AB point handle sheet steel and light-gauge metal framing without pre-drilling, while the Pozi PZ2 recess delivers reliable torque transfer through impact drivers and cordless drills. Each head is powder coated to RAL 9005 Jet Black before leaving our facility.
RAL 9005 Jet Black: Built for Dark Installations
Black fixings on black panels. That is the brief, and RAL 9005 Jet Black delivers it. As the recognised standard black across commercial signage, shopfront systems, premium cladding and contemporary architectural metalwork, Jet Black is the colour specification that contractors reach for whenever a dark, clean-line finish is required.
The RAL 9005 Jet Black powder-coated head merges into dark panel systems and printed hoarding graphics, maintaining the visual continuity of the finished surface. Where a lighter screw head would punctuate every fixing centre with a visible dot, the Jet Black finish keeps the panel looking unbroken.
This colour is consistently among our top sellers. Signage installers, hoarding contractors and metal fabricators treat it as a core stock item: the default dark fixing for any project involving black, charcoal or dark grey panel materials.
All RAL colours in our range are stocked for rapid dispatch. Same product, same quality, whichever colour your project demands.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the advantage of a flange head over a hex head for panel fixing?
Flange head screws sit lower-profile than hex heads and do not require a separate washer. The integrated flange provides built-in load distribution, creating a neater fixing point on visible panel surfaces. Hex heads are better suited to structural connections where maximum torque is the priority rather than a clean aesthetic.
Can I use these on painted or printed panels without damage?
Yes. The flange head spreads clamping pressure evenly across the panel face, which helps protect printed and painted surfaces from cracking or deformation around the fixing point. Using a controlled torque setting during installation further reduces the risk of marking the panel.
Are these suitable for external use in the UK?
These screws are used daily on external hoarding and signage installations across the UK. The BZP carbon steel base provides corrosion resistance for the screw body, while the powder-coated head is UV resistant and weatherproof. For permanently exposed coastal or high-corrosion environments, stainless steel alternatives may be more appropriate.
What size pilot hole is recommended?
For thin sheet metal and light-gauge steel, no pilot hole is required. The AB point and self-tapping thread form the hole as the screw is driven. For heavier gauge substrates above approximately 1.2mm, a 3.2mm to 3.5mm pilot hole will improve thread engagement and reduce driving torque.
Powder Coated Screws
Painted screws from a tin of touch-up paint are not the same as a factory-applied powder coat. At RALfixings, every screw head is finished using an electrostatic powder coating process that bonds colour permanently to the metal surface. The result is a fixing that leaves the box looking exactly as it should, and stays that way.
The cured finish is harder than liquid paint, more resistant to impact and abrasion, and holds its colour under sustained UV exposure. For contractors fitting hundreds or thousands of screws across a hoarding or cladding project, this means consistent colour from first fix to last, and no callbacks to deal with faded or chipped screw heads.
Benefits of powder coated self tapping screws:
- Scratch resistant
- Rust resistant
- UV resistant
- Weather resistant
- Colourfast
Other Colour Options
