19mm x 5.5mm Coloured Hex Head Tek Bolt
The 19mm x 5.5mm is the shortest of the structural Tek bolt range - a compact, high-torque fixing for steel sections up to 5.0mm thick. The 5.5mm thread diameter and Self-Drilling No.3 point give it the drill capacity and holding power the thinner gauges cannot match. Driven with an 8mm hex socket, no pilot hole required.
Where depth is restricted but a structural-grade fixing is needed - a shallow box section, a sign frame corner joint, a bracket sitting against thick steel - the 19mm length keeps the bolt from breaking through the reverse face while delivering full 5.5mm thread engagement. The integrated washer face distributes load evenly across the joint, maintaining the fix under vibration and dynamic load.
Powder coated to your RAL specification. The 5.5mm Tek bolt sits proud of most substrates - that head is visible, and on a colour-specified installation, it needs to match.
Colour Matched to Your RAL Specification
40 stocked RAL colours for standard 3–5 working day lead times. See the full stocked colour range. Any RAL Classic colour to order - contact us with your reference and we'll quote. If your project specifies a precise finish, we can match it. That capability is standard here, not a special request.
Typical Applications
The 19mm x 5.5mm Tek bolt is the structural short fixing for depth-critical steel connections:
- Sign frame and steel RHS corner and lap joints
- Bracket fixing to structural steel sections
- Secondary steelwork connections where depth is restricted
- Steel subframe assembly for architectural signage and cladding
- Stitching thick gauge sheet sections and steel sandwich assemblies
- General structural metalwork requiring a compact high-torque fixing

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the 19mm x 5.5mm Tek bolt used for?
A short structural fixing for steel up to 5.0mm thick - sign frame joints, bracket fixing, RHS connections, and depth-restricted structural metalwork where a full-length bolt would break through the reverse face.
When should I use the 19mm versus the longer lengths?
The 19mm suits shallow steel sections where penetration depth is limited. For thicker assemblies or layered steel requiring more thread engagement, the 32mm, 38mm, or 45mm will be more appropriate.
Can I order a bespoke RAL colour?
Yes. 40 RAL colours in stock for standard lead times, plus any RAL Classic colour to order. Contact us with your reference and quantity.
Do I need to pre-drill?
No. The Self-Drilling No.3 point handles steel up to 5.0mm. Recommended driver speed: 1,000 - 1,800 RPM for clean penetration.
Powder Coated Tek Bolts
The hex head on a 5.5mm Tek bolt is a prominent feature - it stands clear of the substrate surface, and on a colour-specified installation, it is one of the first things a client or inspector will notice. RALfixings powder coats every head in-house, matched to your RAL reference, using an electrostatic process that bonds colour to the metal before heat curing.
The finish is harder, more durable, and more colour-stable than any spray paint applied to a fastener. It does not obscure the hex drive or affect thread tolerances. It is specified because it works.
Benefits of powder coated Tek bolts:
- Scratch resistant
- Rust resistant
- UV resistant
- Weather resistant
- Colourfast
