Coloured 25mm x 4.2mm Wafer Head Self-Drilling Screws
These 4.2 x 25mm coloured wafer head self-drilling screws are the longer-reach companion to the 19mm, built for fixing panels and sheet materials to metal framework where layered build-ups, insulation backing, or deeper steel sections put the frame further from the panel face. The integrated self-drilling point penetrates steel up to 3.0mm thick without a pilot hole, and the additional 6mm of shank over the 19mm provides the thread engagement that thicker assemblies demand.
The 11mm low-profile wafer head distributes load across a wide bearing surface while sitting close to flush against the panel - keeping head protrusion to a minimum so printed hoarding graphics, branded fascias, and colour-specified panels read cleanly across the fixings. The 4.2mm diameter drives quickly with less material stress than heavier 4.8mm screws, giving clean results at speed across large panel runs.
Manufactured from carbon steel with a bright zinc plated (BZP) base, certified to BS EN 14566 and BS EN 10666 with an Euroclass A1 fire rating. Each screw is powder-coated in-house to a RAL Classic colour standard, so the wafer head colour-matches the panel it sits against - eliminating the row of zinc dots that gives away every fixing point on an otherwise clean installation.
41 RAL Colour-Matched Finishes
Every 4.2 x 25mm wafer head screw is electro-statically powder-coated and oven-cured to a RAL Classic colour standard. The result is a hard, uniform finish bonded directly to the screw head - resistant to scratching, chipping, UV fading, and general site wear. Unlike wet paint, powder coat will not peel, blister, or thin at edges over time, even on exposed hoarding installations subject to weather and repeated panel changes.
With 41 stocked RAL colours spanning whites, greys, blacks, blues, greens, reds, yellows, browns, and purples, these coloured wafer head screws cover the most commonly specified colours across hoarding, signage, framing, and light cladding applications. Whether you are matching RAL 9016 Traffic White printed hoardings, RAL 9005 Jet Black branded panels, RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey facade elements, or RAL 5012 Light Blue corporate graphics, the right colour is available for immediate dispatch.
For our most popular hoarding colours in project-ready packs with dedicated technical specs, see the PanelPro™ HP25-SD branded range - the same self-drilling screw optimised for hoarding procurement. For anything outside those colours, or when ordering per screw to a specific RAL reference, this is the product to use.
Need a RAL colour outside the stocked range? We hold over 400 RAL Classic powders and can coat to any colour on request. Contact us with your RAL reference for availability and lead times.
Common Applications
4.2 x 25mm coloured wafer head self-drilling screws are used wherever a low-profile, colour-matched fix into metal requires deeper thread engagement than the 19mm provides:
- Hoarding on metal frames - panels to steel and aluminium hoarding systems, multi-site installations
- ACM and composite panels - Dibond®, aluminium composite, and rigid boards on metal carriers
- Metal stud framing - deeper stud-to-track connections and layered assemblies
- Signage and fascia systems - sign trays, fascia frames, and branded panel fixings on steel
- Ducting and M&E installations - deeper ductwork sections, cable containment, and services
- Aluminium sub-frames - steel and aluminium box frames where no pre-drill is required

Frequently Asked Questions
When should I use 25mm wafer head self-drilling screws instead of 19mm or 13mm?
The 25mm provides additional thread engagement for layered materials, insulation backing, deeper steel sections, and thicker panel build-ups where the 19mm or 13mm would not reach far enough into the frame. Choose 13mm for the thinnest track stitching with minimal protrusion; 19mm for standard single-skin sheet fixing; and 25mm where there is material build-up between the panel face and the steel, or where greater pull-out resistance is needed.
What thickness of steel can these screws drill through?
The self-drilling point penetrates steel up to 3.0mm thick without a pilot hole. Beyond 3mm, pre-drill the section first. Drill at speed and ease off as the wafer head seats to avoid stripping the metal thread.
What is the difference between these screws and PanelPro HP25-SD?
They are the same 25mm wafer head self-drilling screw. PanelPro™ HP25-SD is our branded hoarding range, sold in project-ready packs with dedicated colour charts and technical specification sheets. This product offers the same screw powder-coated to any of 41 stocked RAL colours - ideal when you need a specific RAL match outside the PanelPro range, or when ordering per screw rather than by the pack.
What is the difference between a wafer head and a flange head screw?
Both head types sit low and distribute load across a wide area, but they differ in profile and application. A wafer head is thinner and flatter - sitting closer to flush against the surface - making it the better choice where minimal head protrusion is critical, such as hoarding panels where graphics need to read cleanly across the fixings. A flange head stands slightly higher with a more pronounced washer effect, providing greater pull-through resistance on thin panels. Choose wafer for hoarding, stitching, and minimal protrusion; flange for panel clamping on trims and cladding.
What driver bit do I need for these screws?
These wafer head screws have a Phillips PH2 recess. Use a standard PH2 driver bit - drill at speed through the steel and ease off as the head seats. Compatible with all cordless drivers and hand screwdrivers.
Powder Coated Self-Drilling Screws
RALfixings specialise in colour-matched visible fixings for the hoarding, signage, and construction sectors. Every self-drilling screw is powder-coated in-house using an electrostatic spray process, then oven-cured at 200°C to produce a hard, even finish that bonds directly to the screw head.
Powder coating outperforms wet paint in every measurable way. The electrostatically charged powder particles wrap around the low-profile wafer head and into the Phillips recess, building a consistent film thickness that liquid paint cannot replicate. On hoarding installations where fixings are visible at regular intervals across printed graphics, batch-to-batch colour consistency is what keeps the finish clean. The cured finish is harder, more flexible, and far more resistant to impact, abrasion, and chemical exposure than paint, standing up to outdoor exposure, repeated handling, and long-term use on site.
Benefits of powder coated self-drilling screws:
- Scratch resistant - hard cured finish withstands handling, installation, and site wear
- Rust resistant - BZP base plus powder coat provides dual corrosion protection
- UV resistant - colour stays true with no fading or chalking
- Weather resistant - will not peel, blister, or crack in exterior conditions
- Colourfast - consistent colour across production runs and pack sizes

Recommended applications
The longer-reach companion to the 19mm wafer head, built for colour-matched fixing into metal framework where layered build-ups, insulation backing, or deeper steel sections put the frame further from the panel face. The additional 6mm of shank over the 19mm provides the thread engagement that thicker assemblies demand, while the same low-profile wafer head keeps fixings discreet against printed graphics and branded panels.
The integrated self-drilling point penetrates steel up to 3.0mm without a pilot hole. The 11mm wafer head distributes load across a wide bearing surface while sitting close to flush. The 4.2mm diameter drives quickly with less material stress than heavier 4.8mm screws. Drive with a PH2 Phillips bit — drill at speed and ease off as the head seats to avoid stripping.
For standard single-skin sheet fixing where the shorter reach is sufficient, the 19mm wafer head is the more economical choice. For the thinnest track stitching with minimal protrusion, use the 13mm. Where panel clamping force matters more than minimal protrusion, consider our flange head self-tapping screws.
