Coloured 25mm x 4.2mm Wafer Head Self-Tapping Screws

These 25mm x 4.2mm coloured wafer head self-tapping screws are the longer-reach companion to the 19mm, built for fixing panels and graphics boards into deeper timber frames where the additional 6mm of thread engagement makes the difference between a secure hold and a screw that barely grips the frame behind the panel. Thicker panel build-ups, deeper timber battens, and taller hoardings subject to wind loading all demand the reach that the 25mm provides.

The sharp point and 60° self-tapping thread drive directly into softwood battens and stud frames without pre-drilling, and the wafer low-profile head distributes load across a wide bearing surface while sitting flatter against the panel than pan or countersunk heads. On hoarding installations, signage systems, and printed graphics boards, this keeps head protrusion to a minimum so the fixings sit discreetly against the finished surface.

Manufactured from carbon steel with a bright zinc plated (BZP) base and finished in a durable RAL powder coat, each screw head is colour-matched to the panel it sits against. Where fixings are visible across printed hoarding graphics, branded fascias, or colour-specified panels, a colour-matched wafer head disappears into the work - keeping the finish clean and the fixings discreet across the full installation.

41 RAL Colour-Matched Finishes

Every 25mm wafer head screw is electrostatically powder-coated and oven-cured to a RAL Classic colour standard. The result is a hard, uniform finish bonded directly to the screw head - resistant to scratching, chipping, UV fading, and general site wear. Unlike wet paint, powder coat will not peel, blister, or thin at edges over time, even on exposed hoarding installations subject to weather and repeated panel changes.

With 41 stocked RAL colours spanning whites, greys, blacks, blues, greens, reds, yellows, browns, and purples, these coloured wafer head screws cover the most commonly specified colours across hoarding, signage, shopfitting, and graphics applications. Whether you are matching RAL 9016 Traffic White printed hoardings, RAL 9005 Jet Black branded panels, RAL 1015 Light Ivory heritage schemes, or RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey signage frames, the right colour is available for immediate dispatch.

For our most popular hoarding colours in project-ready packs with dedicated technical specs, see the PanelPro™ HP25 branded range - the same self-tapping screw optimised for hoarding procurement. For anything outside those colours, or when ordering per screw to a specific RAL reference, this is the product to use.

Need a RAL colour outside the stocked range? We hold over 400 RAL Classic powders and can coat to any colour on request. Contact us with your RAL reference for availability and lead times.

Common Applications

4.2 x 25mm coloured wafer head self-tapping screws are used wherever a low-profile, colour-matched fix into timber or thin sheet requires deeper thread engagement than the 19mm provides:

  • Hoarding on deeper timber frames - taller hoardings, wind-exposed perimeter boards, thicker panel build-ups
  • Signage and graphics - large-format printed boards and graphics panels on deep timber battens
  • ACM and composite panels - Dibond® and rigid composite boards on timber substructures
  • Drywall and partitioning - deeper track fixing and partition framing
  • Shopfitting and fit-out - double-skin panels, display systems, and thicker build-up trims
  • Ducting and light cladding - deeper ductwork sections, trunking covers, and panel trims

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I use 25mm wafer head self-tapping screws instead of 19mm?

The 25mm provides 6mm of additional thread engagement for thicker panel build-ups, deeper timber battens, and assemblies where the 19mm would not reach far enough into the frame behind the panel. Choose 19mm for standard single-skin panels on shallow timber battens; 25mm where the timber frame is deeper, the panel is thicker, or where greater pull-out resistance is needed - for example on taller hoardings or wind-exposed installations.

What is the difference between self-tapping and self-drilling wafer head screws?

A self-tapping screw has a sharp point that forms its own thread as it is driven into the substrate - it works directly into timber, plastics, and thin sheet metal without pre-tapping, but needs a pilot hole in harder metals. A self-drilling screw has an integrated drill point (Tek point) that cuts its own hole before the thread engages, so no pilot hole is required even in steel. Choose self-tapping wafer heads for timber frame hoardings and thin sheet; self-drilling wafer heads for steel and aluminium framework.

What is the difference between these screws and PanelPro HP25?

They are the same 25mm wafer head self-tapping screw. PanelPro™ HP25 is our branded hoarding range, sold in project-ready packs with dedicated colour charts and technical specification sheets. This product offers the same screw powder-coated to any of 41 stocked RAL colours - ideal when you need a specific RAL match outside the PanelPro range, or when ordering per screw rather than by the pack.

What driver bit do I need for these screws?

These wafer head screws have a Phillips PH2 recess. Use a standard PH2 driver bit at controlled speed - apply firm, steady pressure for a positive drive. Compatible with all cordless drivers and hand screwdrivers.

What materials can these screws fix into?

The sharp point and 60° self-tapping thread drive directly into softwood timber, plastics, and thin sheet metal without pre-drilling. The 25mm length provides deep engagement into timber battens and stud frames. For harder metals or thicker steel, a pilot hole is recommended. For steel and aluminium frameworks where no pilot hole is required, use our self-drilling wafer head screws instead.

Powder Coated Self-Tapping Screws

RALfixings specialise in colour-matched visible fixings for the hoarding, signage, and construction sectors. Every self-tapping screw is powder-coated in-house using an electrostatic spray process, then oven-cured at 200°C to produce a hard, even finish that bonds directly to the screw head.

Powder coating outperforms wet paint in every measurable way. The electrostatically charged powder particles wrap around the low-profile wafer head and into the Phillips recess, building a consistent film thickness that liquid paint cannot replicate. On hoarding installations where fixings are visible at regular intervals across printed graphics, colour consistency is what keeps the finish clean. The cured finish is harder, more flexible, and far more resistant to impact, abrasion, and chemical exposure than paint, standing up to outdoor exposure, repeated handling, and long-term use on site.

Benefits of powder coated self-tapping screws:

  • Scratch resistant - hard cured finish withstands handling, installation, and panel changes
  • Rust resistant - BZP base plus powder coat provides dual corrosion protection
  • UV resistant - colour stays true with no fading or chalking
  • Weather resistant - will not peel, blister, or crack in exterior conditions
  • Colourfast - RAL colour-matched finish maintains consistency over time

Recommended applications

The longer-reach companion to the 19mm wafer head self-tapping screw, built for fixing panels and graphics boards into deeper timber frames where the additional 6mm of thread engagement makes the difference. Thicker panel build-ups, deeper timber battens, and taller hoardings subject to wind loading all demand the reach that the 25mm provides.

The sharp point and 60° self-tapping thread drive directly into softwood battens and stud frames without pre-drilling. The wafer low-profile head distributes load across a wide bearing surface while sitting flatter against the panel than pan or countersunk heads. The 4.2mm diameter drives quickly with minimal material stress. Drive with a PH2 Phillips bit at controlled speed.

For standard single-skin panels on shallow timber battens where the shorter reach is sufficient, the 19mm wafer head self-tapping screw is the more economical choice. For steel and aluminium frameworks where no pilot hole is required, use our self-drilling wafer head screws. Where panel clamping force matters more than minimal protrusion, consider our flange head self-tapping screws.
