Description

Traffic yellow is one of the most recognisable colours in the built environment. These 25mm x 4.2mm flange head self tapping screws in RAL 1023 Traffic Yellow are powder coated to match the clean, mid-tone yellow specified across road infrastructure, construction plant, safety equipment and high-visibility hoarding installations throughout the UK. Where fixings are visible on the face of a traffic yellow panel or structure, a colour-matched head is the only finish that holds the integrity of the installation.

The 25mm length gives these screws the reach needed on substrates with depth behind them. Timber batten hoarding frames, composite panels with a backing layer, and exposed installations where pull-out resistance matters under wind loading all benefit from the additional thread engagement the 25mm provides. The screw passes through the panel face and locks into the frame below with consistent holding power across both steel and timber subframes.

The flange head is the correct choice for face-fixed panel work. Its wide bearing surface spreads clamping load across the panel skin rather than applying it at a point, preventing the dimpling and micro-cracking that narrower head designs cause on ACM sheet, Foamex and rigid composite boards. The Pozi PZ2 recess drives cleanly and resists cam-out at installation torque, leaving the head surface and powder coat undamaged after fixing.

A 60° self-tapping thread and AB point allow direct installation into light-gauge steel and sheet metal frames without pre-drilling. In timber subframes the thread bites cleanly and holds firmly in softwood battens, making these screws equally effective across the steel and timber fixing frames typical of hoarding and cladding installations.

RAL 1023 Traffic Yellow

RAL 1023 Traffic Yellow is the standardised yellow used across road signs, barriers, construction plant and safety infrastructure in the UK and across Europe. It is a pure, medium-brightness yellow without the green shift of RAL 1020 Olive Yellow or the sharp lime influence of RAL 1016 Sulphur Yellow. The result is a clean, unambiguous yellow that reads clearly across a wide range of lighting conditions and backgrounds, which is precisely why it became the standard for traffic and safety applications.

Each screw head is powder coated to the exact RAL 1023 Classic standard. On traffic yellow hoarding panels, plant enclosures and safety installations where fixings sit across the face of the surface, a zinc or grey screw head creates a visible interruption that a colour-matched fixing removes. The consistency of powder coating to the RAL Classic standard means every head in the pack matches the panel to the same tolerance.

Beyond infrastructure and safety, RAL 1023 is widely used in branding, retail and commercial hoarding where a bold, mid-tone yellow has been specified. Contractors working on branded hoardings, event structures and commercial fit-out in this colour need fixings that hold the finish rather than break it.

All RAL colours in the RALfixings range are held in stock, with most orders dispatching next working day without the delays that special colour sourcing introduces on live projects.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between RAL 1023 Traffic Yellow and RAL 1016 Sulphur Yellow?

RAL 1023 Traffic Yellow is a clean, balanced mid-tone yellow standardised for use across road infrastructure, construction plant and safety systems throughout the UK and Europe. RAL 1016 Sulphur Yellow carries a sharper, lime-influenced tone that sits noticeably brighter and cooler. If your panels or structures match road signs, construction plant or standard safety equipment, RAL 1023 is the correct specification. If the surface reads as a more intense, acidic yellow, RAL 1016 is likely the closer match.

When should I use 25mm screws instead of 19mm?

The 25mm length provides additional thread engagement for thicker substrates, deeper timber battens and double-skin panel assemblies. Where the 19mm version suits single-skin sheet metal connections, the 25mm delivers extra grip and pull-out resistance when the screw needs to pass through the panel face and reach solidly into the frame behind.

Can these be used to fix hoarding panels to timber frames?

Yes. The 25mm length and self-tapping AB point thread make these screws well suited to fixing panels to the timber battens and stud frames used on construction hoarding. The flange head distributes clamping force across a wide footprint to hold the panel flat, while the extra length provides firm engagement into the timber behind.

How quickly can you deliver?

RAL 1023 Traffic Yellow is held in stock. Most orders dispatch next working day on a tracked 24-hour service. Larger volume orders typically ship within 3 to 5 working days.

Powder Coated Screws

RALfixings gives contractors and specifiers access to colour-matched visible fixings without the compromise of painting screws on site or accepting a tone that does not match the panel system. Every screw in the range is powder coated in-house to exact RAL Classic colour standards, with consistent batch-to-batch accuracy across every pack size.

The electrostatic powder coating process deposits a fine layer of thermoset pigment onto the screw head, which is then cured under heat to form a hard, permanently bonded shell. This finish outperforms wet paint in adhesion, hardness, chip resistance, UV stability and colour consistency across production runs.

Benefits of powder coated self tapping screws:

  • Scratch resistant
  • Rust resistant
  • UV resistant
  • Weather resistant
  • Colourfast

Other Colour Options

These 25mm x 4.2mm painted flange head self tapping screws are available in over 60 colour-matched RAL finishes for hoarding panels, signage and visible metalwork.

Recommended applications

Designed for fixing ACM panels, composite cladding, and timber facade boards to timber battens and structural substrates. The powder-coated head matches your panel RAL precisely, eliminating visible bright metal fixings against the facade surface.

Pre-drilling recommended for hardwoods over 20mm density. The flange head spreads clamping force across a wider footprint, reducing surface pitting and preventing pull-through on thinner sheet materials.

Not recommended for fixing into steel framing — use our self-drilling range for steel substrates.
