Popular colours for UK composite and timber decking

Some RAL colours are specified more frequently than others for UK decking installations. The DS65 is most commonly used for stair treads, thicker composite boards, and hardwood subframe applications where a longer screw is required, and the same colour range applies as for the DS50. Colour consistency across both screw lengths on the same project is straightforward as all 8 DeckingPro™ colours are available in both DS50 and DS65.

  • RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey - the most widely installed composite decking colour in the UK, closely matching charcoal and dark grey boards from leading brands
  • RAL 7042 Traffic Grey A - a warm mid-grey suited to stone grey and natural grey composite boards and grey-stained timber decking
  • RAL 7035 Light Grey - a cool pale grey matched to light grey, silver grey and ash grey composite board variants
  • RAL 8028 Terra Brown - a rich warm brown matching coffee, chocolate and mocha composite boards and warm-toned hardwood decking
  • RAL 8019 Grey Brown - a deep muted brown suited to walnut and dark brown composite boards and dark hardwood timbers
  • RAL 1019 Grey Beige - a warm neutral beige matched to teak and savanna-toned composite boards and natural timber decking
  • RAL 1015 Light Ivory - a soft warm off-white for ivory and cream composite boards and pale timber decking
  • RAL 7009 Green Grey - a muted olive-grey for sage and olive green composite boards and naturally weathered or green-stained timber decking

Frequently asked questions

What are DeckingPro™ DS65 screws used for?

DeckingPro™ DS65 screws are designed for face-fixing thicker composite and timber decking boards (25mm+), stair treads, and applications where increased thread penetration into hardwood or composite subframes is required. They are specified where the DS50 does not provide sufficient pull-out depth, including stair tread fixing, commercial decking platforms, and installations onto hardwood joists. A2 stainless steel construction makes them suitable for corrosive timber species including green oak and cedar.

What is the difference between DS50 and DS65?

The DS65 is 15mm longer than the DS50, providing greater thread engagement into the timber subframe. For standard 20 to 22mm composite or timber boards on softwood joists, the DS50 is sufficient. The DS65 is the correct specification for boards above 22mm, hardwood or composite joist systems, stair treads, and high-load areas. Both lengths are available in identical colours, so mixing them across a project produces a consistent finish throughout.

Are all colours on this chart available to order?

Yes. The 8 colours shown in this DeckingPro™ DS65 guide are stocked product options available for same or next working day dispatch. All colours are held in bulk for packing to order in retail pack sizes of 25, 50, 100, 200 and 500, and trade pack sizes of 200, 500, 1,000 and 2,000.

Can I click each colour to view the product page?

Yes. Each RAL colour in the chart links directly to its individual product page, where you can view the full product description, technical specification and available pack sizes before ordering.

Which colours are most commonly used for composite decking steps and stair treads?

The most widely specified colours for UK composite decking steps are RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey, RAL 7042 Traffic Grey A, RAL 7035 Light Grey and RAL 8028 Terra Brown, matching the dominant board colourways used across stair and step installations in the UK composite decking market.

Can DeckingPro™ DS65 screws be used on timber as well as composite decking?

Yes. DeckingPro™ DS65 screws are manufactured from A2-304 stainless steel and are suitable for softwood, hardwood, and corrosive timber species. The powder coated head colours in the DeckingPro™ range are also well suited to stained and oiled timber decking boards in matching tones. See each product page for full substrate compatibility detail.

Where can I find the full dimensions and technical details?
