PanelPro™ HP19 Hoarding Screws - The UK's First Dedicated Hoarding Screw

PanelPro™ HP19 Hoarding Screws - The UK's First Dedicated Hoarding Screw

Every signage company uses a different screw for hoardings. Most of them are wrong.

If you work in signage, print, or hoarding installation, you already know the problem. Ask five companies what screw they use to fix hoarding panels and you'll get five different answers. Flange heads, countersunks, SPAX, pan heads, generic self-tappers? The UK hoarding market has never had a standard fixing, and installers have been making do with whatever is closest to hand.

The result? Pitted panels, proud screw heads catching the light across 50 metres of premium branded hoarding, lead times that don't match project deadlines, and procurement managers re-specifying fixings from scratch on every single job.

We built PanelPro™ HP19 to solve that. It is the first and only screw on the UK market designed, engineered, and sold specifically as a hoarding screw.

What is the PanelPro™ HP19?

PanelPro™ HP19 is a 19mm low-profile wafer head self-tapping screw built for fixing printed hoarding panels, ACM boards (such as Dibond®), Foamex sheets, and temporary façade graphics to timber and light-gauge steel sub-frames.

Unlike generic panel screws or repurposed wood screws, every element of the HP19 has been engineered for the specific demands of hoarding panel installation:

  • 11mm wafer head distributes clamping force evenly across the panel surface, reducing the risk of pitting at high install torque
  • Extra-low profile head sits flush with the panel surface so fixings disappear into the graphic design
  • AB sharp point penetrates ACM and composite boards without a pilot hole, saving installation time on site
  • Fine self-tapping thread bites securely into timber battens and light-gauge steel framing (≤1.2mm)
  • PH2 Phillips recess uses standard driver bits with no specialist tooling required
  • Dual-layer powder coated heads BZP carbon steel base with epoxy primer and colour-matched powder coat for two layers of weatherproof, UV-resistant, scratch-proof durability and protection.

The HP19 is manufactured to EN 14566 standard and carries a Euroclass A1 fire classification (non-combustible), making it suitable for construction environments where fire performance is required and straightforward to include in specification documents.

Why we launched PanelPro™

A selection of coloured powder coated PanelPro hoarding screws with coloured painted heads in various bright and vivid colours

At RALfixings, we've spent years supplying colour-matched screws and fixings to the UK signage and construction industries. In that time, one conversation has come up more than any other: "What screw should I actually use for hoardings?"

The honest answer, until now, has been "it depends". This is because there was no single product designed for the job. The market was fragmented, with installers choosing from dozens of generic screw types that were never engineered for thin ACM panels on timber frames.

Here's what we kept seeing go wrong:

  • Countersunk screws: the cone-shaped head concentrates force on a tiny contact point, creating visible pitting and dimpling across the panel surface. These are designed for timber-to-timber work, not sheet material
  • Flange head screws: better clamping force, but the raised head profile sits proud of the panel and catches the eye. On branded hoarding, you can see every fixing from across the street
  • Generic wood screws (SPAX-type): built for timber joints, not ACM panel fixing. The aggressive thread pitch can split thin composite boards and the head profile isn't optimised for clamping sheet material
  • Pan head screws: sit too high above the panel surface, creating snag points and disrupting the graphic finish

PanelPro™ HP19 was our answer to all of this. A single, purpose-built hoarding screw that removes the guesswork from specification, procurement, and installation.

How PanelPro™ helps specifiers, project managers, and procurement teams

For specifiers and architects

If you write hoarding specifications for construction projects, PanelPro™ HP19 gives you a standardised, compliant fixing you can specify with confidence. The screw is EN 14566 compliant and Euroclass A1 fire rated, with ready-to-use specification wording:

"Fixings for hoarding panels shall be PanelPro™ HP19 Low Profile Hoarding Screws, 19mm length, fine thread, EN 14566 compliant, Euroclass A1 rated, bright zinc plated carbon steel with colour matched powder coated head as required. Supplied by RALfixings Ltd."

By specifying PanelPro™ on your hoarding specification documents, you give contractors and installers a clear, tested fixing that removes ambiguity and ensures a consistent finish across every panel on every project.

For project managers

The hoarding market is reactive. Timelines compress, artwork arrives late, and panels need to be on site before the print is dry. You don't have two weeks to wait for a bespoke colour run from a coating supplier.

PanelPro™ HP19 is stocked in 60 RAL Classic colours - every single one available for 1-2 day dispatch. Whether you need RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey for a contemporary development or RAL 3020 Traffic Red for a branded retail hoarding, it's in stock and ready to ship.

No minimum order quantities. No lead time surprises. No chasing suppliers for colour availability.

For procurement managers and buyers

If you're buying fixings across multiple projects for a print house or signage company, consistency matters. PanelPro™ gives you a single product line that works for every hoarding job; one SKU per colour, one supplier, one price. No more re-specifying from scratch on each project, no more sourcing from three different suppliers to cover the colour range.

Because we invested heavily in stock at launch, we secured strong supply chain pricing that we pass directly to trade buyers. PanelPro™ HP19 is competitively priced against generic alternatives, and it's purpose-built for the job.

What makes PanelPro™ different from other panel screws?

There are plenty of coloured screws on the market. So what sets PanelPro™ apart from a generic wafer head or ACM screw?

1. It's the only designated hoarding screw on the UK market

No other screw is marketed, engineered, and stocked specifically for hoarding panel installation. Every competitor is selling a general-purpose fixing that can be used for hoardings. PanelPro™ HP19 is the only one built for hoardings.

2. 60 RAL colours from stock with 1-2 day dispatch

Most colour-matched fixings suppliers offer a handful of stocked colours and a 2-4 week lead time for anything else. We stock all 60 RAL colours of the HP19 for rapid dispatch. In a deadline-driven market where panels arrive on site days before installation, stock availability is the difference between hitting the deadline and missing it.

3. Engineered head profile for ACM panels

The 11mm wafer head diameter is wider than a standard wafer head screw, providing greater clamping area across the panel face. Combined with the extra-low profile, the HP19 holds ACM panels securely in place without pitting the surface or disrupting the printed graphic. The fixing effectively disappears once installed.

4. Dual-layer durability

Hoarding installations are outdoor, exposed to UK weather, and typically in place for weeks to months. The HP19's BZP carbon steel core with powder-coated head provides weatherproof, rust-resistant, UV-resistant, scratch-proof, and colourfast performance. The dual-layer system outperforms single-layer painted fixings for long-term visual consistency.

5. Compliance-ready for specification documents

EN 14566 compliance, Euroclass A1 fire rating, and pre-written specification wording make PanelPro™ HP19 straightforward for architects, specification writers, and developer procurement teams to include in hoarding spec packs. No chasing data sheets, no uncertainty about compliance - it's all documented and ready.

6. Competitive trade pricing

A purpose-built, colour-matched, fully compliant hoarding screw at a price point that competes with generic alternatives. Our upfront investment in stock depth allowed us to secure strong supply chain pricing, and we pass that directly to trade buyers.

Most popular colours for UK hoarding projects

While PanelPro™ HP19 is available across 60 RAL colours, some colours are specified far more frequently for UK construction hoardings, architectural panel systems, and branded signage:

  • RAL 9005 Jet Black; the most popular choice for high-contrast branding, premium signage, and dark panel installations
  • RAL 9016 Traffic White; a crisp bright white widely specified for modern hoardings and aluminium panel systems
  • RAL 9010 Pure White; a common architectural white for signage panels and clean hoarding designs
  • RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey; widely used on modern developments, cladding systems, and contemporary construction hoardings

Intended applications

PanelPro™ HP19 hoarding screws are designed for use across a range of construction, signage, and temporary installation environments:

  • Printed construction hoardings and site perimeter graphics
  • ACM graphic hoarding panels (Dibond®, aluminium composite)
  • Foamex and PVC board installations (5-10mm)
  • Temporary façade systems and branded perimeter screening
  • Retail and commercial development hoardings
  • Event, exhibition, and promotional panel installations

The HP19 is compatible with timber hoarding frames, timber battens, light-gauge steel framing (≤1.2mm), and aluminium subframes (pre-drilling recommended for aluminium).

Installation guidance

For a clean, professional finish with PanelPro™ HP19 hoarding screws:

  1. Use a variable-speed driver with a PH2 driver bit
  2. Fix at 300-450mm centres (adjust for wind loading and panel size)
  3. Do not countersink - the low-profile wafer head is designed to sit flush
  4. Avoid overdriving - stop when the head meets the panel surface to prevent distortion
  5. No pilot hole required - the AB sharp point penetrates ACM directly
  6. Match the screw colour to the panel RAL for seamless integration

Typical fixing centres of 300-450mm provide secure clamping while keeping the number of visible fixings to a minimum. Always ensure the timber or steel framing is structurally adequate for the panel loading and anticipated wind conditions on site.
