Description
Grey brown is one of the most widely specified neutral tones in UK construction and architectural cladding. These 25mm x 4.2mm flange head self tapping screws in RAL 8019 Grey Brown are powder coated to match the deep, sophisticated brown-grey used across commercial and residential facade systems, timber-effect cladding panels and high-specification hoarding installations where a warm, composed dark neutral has been specified. On a surface in this colour, a zinc or standard grey fixing sits as a cold, light intrusion against a tone chosen precisely for its depth and warmth.
The 25mm length provides the thread engagement needed where the substrate carries depth behind the panel face. Timber batten hoarding frames, composite panels with a backing layer and exposed installations subject to wind loading all require a screw that passes through the panel and bites firmly into the frame below. The 25mm is the correct specification for these conditions.
The flange head distributes clamping force across a wide bearing footprint, preventing the point loading that narrower head designs apply to the panel skin. On ACM sheet, Foamex and rigid composite boards this prevents dimpling and surface stress at the fixing point. The Pozi PZ2 recess drives positively at installation torque with minimal cam-out, keeping the head surface and powder coat intact after fixing.
A 60° self-tapping thread and AB point cut directly into light-gauge steel and sheet metal frames without pre-drilling, and pull cleanly through softwood timber battens with strong holding power in both substrate types.
RAL 8019 Grey Brown
RAL 8019 Grey Brown is a deep, warm brown with a strong grey component that desaturates it into a sophisticated, composed neutral sitting somewhere between a dark warm grey and a rich brown. It carries none of the red warmth of copper brown or the yellow influence of olive brown, and sits considerably darker and warmer than the greyed neutrals of the RAL 7000 series. This places it in a unique position in the RAL palette: a dark neutral with genuine warmth and character that reads as neither a conventional grey nor a conventional brown, which is precisely why it has become one of the most popular specification colours across UK commercial architecture, timber-effect cladding systems and high-end hoarding.
The widespread use of RAL 8019 in contemporary UK construction reflects a broader shift toward warm dark neutrals as an alternative to the cool anthracite and dark grey tones that dominated facade specification for much of the previous decade. It sits naturally alongside timber, weathering steel and natural stone, which makes it a go-to specification for architects and contractors working on buildings where material warmth is part of the design intent. Each screw head is powder coated to the exact RAL 8019 Classic standard, with consistent colour across every pack.
The grey component in RAL 8019 is what makes standard grey fixing specification unreliable on this colour. A cool grey fixing reads as tonally lighter and colder against the warmth of grey brown, and a standard brown fixing reads as too saturated and red. The specific balance of warm brown and grey in RAL 8019 requires matching to the RAL Classic standard to produce a head that sits within the surface rather than against it. On large facade panels and continuous cladding runs where fixings are visible at regular intervals, that precision is what holds the finish together.
All RAL colours in the RALfixings range are held in stock for immediate dispatch without special order lead times on live project schedules.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does RAL 8019 Grey Brown differ from RAL 7013 Brown Grey and RAL 8028 Terra Brown?
RAL 7013 Brown Grey sits in the grey family with a brown undertone, reading primarily as a warm grey rather than a brown. RAL 8028 Terra Brown is a darker, richer brown with more saturation and depth than RAL 8019. RAL 8019 Grey Brown sits between the two: darker and warmer than brown grey, but with more grey influence and less saturated brown character than terra brown. It is the warm dark neutral that neither a grey nor a brown quite achieves on its own, which is what makes it one of the most widely specified colours in contemporary UK cladding and facade work. If your panels read as a deep, warm neutral that is neither clearly grey nor clearly brown, RAL 8019 is almost certainly the correct specification.
When should I use 25mm screws instead of 19mm?
The 25mm length provides additional thread engagement for thicker substrates, deeper timber battens and double-skin panel assemblies. Where the 19mm version suits single-skin sheet metal connections, the 25mm delivers extra grip and pull-out resistance when the screw needs to pass through the panel face and reach solidly into the frame behind.
Can these be used to fix hoarding panels to timber frames?
Yes. The 25mm length and self-tapping AB point thread make these screws well suited to fixing panels to the timber battens and stud frames used on construction hoarding. The flange head distributes clamping force across a wide footprint to hold the panel flat, while the extra length provides firm engagement into the timber behind.
How quickly can you deliver?
RAL 8019 Grey Brown is held in stock. Most orders dispatch next working day on a tracked 24-hour service. Larger volume orders typically ship within 3 to 5 working days.
Powder Coated Screws
RALfixings exists to give contractors and specifiers access to colour-matched visible fixings without painting screws on site or accepting a tone that does not match the panel system. Every screw in the range is powder coated in-house to exact RAL Classic colour standards, with consistent batch-to-batch accuracy across every pack size.
The electrostatic powder coating process deposits a fine layer of thermoset pigment onto the screw head, which is then cured under heat to form a hard, permanently bonded shell. This finish outperforms wet paint in adhesion, hardness, chip resistance, UV stability and colour consistency across production runs.
Benefits of powder coated self tapping screws:
- Scratch resistant
- Rust resistant
- UV resistant
- Weather resistant
- Colourfast
Other Colour Options
These 25mm x 4.2mm painted flange head self tapping screws are available in over 60 colour-matched RAL finishes for hoarding panels, signage and visible metalwork.

These 25mm x 4.2mm painted flange head self tapping screws are available in over 60 colour-matched RAL finishes for hoarding panels, signage and visible metalwork.
Recommended applications
Designed for fixing ACM panels, composite cladding, and timber facade boards to timber battens and structural substrates. The powder-coated head matches your panel RAL precisely, eliminating visible bright metal fixings against the facade surface.
Pre-drilling recommended for hardwoods over 20mm density. The flange head spreads clamping force across a wider footprint, reducing surface pitting and preventing pull-through on thinner sheet materials.
Not recommended for fixing into steel framing — use our self-drilling range for steel substrates.
