Description
DeckingPro™ DS50 in RAL 7042 Traffic Grey A are 4.5 x 50mm A2 stainless steel decking screws for face-fixing mid-grey and stone grey composite decking boards, fascia boards, riser boards, and perimeter framing where a warmer, slightly darker grey is needed to match the board tone. The same balanced mid-grey works equally well on grey-stained or naturally weathered softwood and hardwood timber decking, where a neutral warm grey head is a more sympathetic match than a bright silver fixing.
RAL 7042 Traffic Grey A sits distinctly darker and warmer than RAL 7035 Light Grey, placing it firmly in stone grey and mid-grey board territory. This is the screw specification for boards described as stone grey, mid grey, pebble, and similar warm neutral greys across the UK decking market. On boards at this tonal level, a correctly matched grey head all but disappears into the surface. A mismatched silver or anthracite head creates a visible pattern that no amount of careful board installation can overcome.
The double countersunk head drives flush, the sharp point starts cleanly without pre-drilling in most applications, and the PZ2 drive ensures reliable engagement without the cam-out risk of a slotted head.
Colour-Matched for a Professional Outdoor Finish
RAL 7042 Traffic Grey A is a warm, balanced mid-grey, not the cool steel of RAL 7035 nor the blue-grey depth of RAL 7016. It matches stone grey and natural grey boards that sit in the middle of the grey spectrum, providing a screw head that aligns with the mid-tone of the board across varying lighting conditions.
Traffic Grey A has broad application beyond decking. It appears on aluminium window frames, curtain walling, and architectural metalwork, which means boards finished in this family often exist within a wider project where the same RAL tone is repeated elsewhere. Matching the screw head to RAL 7042 brings the fixing into alignment with the complete colour system, not just the board itself.
Stock across all 8 DeckingPro™ colours dispatches same or next working day, with no minimum order on any pack size.
Substrate compatibility
DeckingPro™ DS50 in RAL 7042 is suitable for face-fixing a range of decking board materials to timber and steel subframes. A2 stainless steel is required where fixing into corrosive timber species.

- Softwood timber decking - treated and untreated softwood boards in grey-stained or naturally weathered finishes
- Hardwood timber decking - hardwood boards with grey oiled, weathered, or mid-grey stained finishes where a warm grey fixing complements the surface tone

Frequently asked questions
Is RAL 7042 the right grey for stone grey composite decking?
RAL 7042 Traffic Grey A is a warm mid-grey and is the closest available RAL match to stone grey and natural mid-grey composite board variants. If your boards are described as light grey, silver grey, or ash grey, the cooler DS50 in RAL 7035 may be a closer match. We recommend comparing both against your boards or consulting our colour guide.
Can these be used on hardwood and softwood timber decking?
Yes. DeckingPro™ DS50 screws are manufactured from A2-304 stainless steel, suitable for softwood, hardwood, and corrosive timber species including green oak and cedar. The mid-grey powder coated head suits grey-oiled, weathered, or grey-stained timber decking boards where a colour-matched fixing is preferable to a standard silver head. Pre-drilling with a 3.5mm pilot hole is recommended for hardwood boards and fixings close to board edges.
Do I need to pre-drill for these screws?
For composite boards and softwood joists, pre-drilling is not required in most standard applications. For hardwood boards, hardwood joists, or fixings within 15mm of board edges, a 3.5mm pilot hole is recommended to prevent splitting.
How many screws do I need per square metre of decking?
Typically 10 to 14 screws per square metre. A 200-pack is sized for a standard residential deck project.
What are the delivery and lead times on DeckingPro™ screws?
All 8 DeckingPro™ stocked colours are available for same or next working day dispatch on a tracked 24-hour delivery service.
Powder coated decking screws
At RALfixings we specialise in colour-matched fixings for exterior applications. Every DeckingPro™ screw head is powder coated in-house to a precise RAL standard. The electrostatic powder coating process produces a uniform, durable finish that outperforms liquid paint in scratch resistance, UV stability, and adhesion to the metal substrate. Coating is applied to the head only. The stainless steel thread and shank remain fully uncoated.
Benefits of powder coated stainless decking screws:
- Scratch resistant
- UV resistant
- Weather resistant
- Colourfast in outdoor conditions
- Rust resistant - A2 stainless steel core
